At this time, small outdoor spaces are being upgraded to meet the growing demand of urban gardeners and so here’s just a few tips on how to keep your outdoor space sustainable and Feng Shui orientated even in the city:

  • If you are planning a small vegetable garden choose East or Southeast direction to place it, South would be also good but only for the plants who tolerate more sunlight;
  • Having your own compost bin is a great way to contribut for a greener future and you will notice that tree leafs,fruit and vegetables leftovers can be valuable for nurturing your plants, place it at Northeast;
  • At North, try to save water from the rain with any bucket and is also better to water plants with no chemicals from the pipes;
  • Southwest is great for creating a confy and relaxing corner with pillows, like this one handmade in Alentejo from @caravana_chic.

Should we all sleep with our head towards North direction?

Many scholars indicate placing the bed in alignment with the Earth’s magnetic field, where the head of the bed would face North and the feet would face South, so that the person would receive the energies that circulate through the Earth’s poles.

This is definitely the most common myth I hear, and the North is certainly a great direction, but not for all us.

Did you know that, according to Feng Shui, the position of our bed can interfere with the quality of our sleep and consequently of our life? A badly positioned bed can cause us to have difficulty sleeping, insomnia, it can drain our energy and ultimately can attract difficulties in life.

Here are the years that indicate if we benefit with North direction in general ( remember if you are born in January until 4 February you are still in the previous year for Chinese calendar):

  • 1963;1969;1970;
  • 1972; 1978;1979;
  • 1981;1987;1988;
  • 1990; 1996;1997;
  • 1999; 2005; 2006;
  • 2008;2014; 2015;
  • 2017.

  • Place flowers or a plant near the computer;
  • Benefit from natural light placing the desk near a window;
  • Don’t sit with your back to a door;
  • Avoid placing the desk directly in front of the door;
  • Have a comfortable chair and adjust your sitting in a proper position while at the computer.
