3 places where you shouldn’t place your bed according to Feng Shui:

▫️With the head or feet pointing directly at the door;

▫️If you have the bed against a wall, either on the sides or headboard, make sure it is not leaning against a bathroom, especially if there are pipes running on that wall;

▫️Sleeping under exposed beams is not good feng shui, if it is parallel to the bed it will be better.

Try following these recommendations and you will see your bedroom energy and even your sleep improve.

Cardinal points and Feng Shui.

One of the most ancient classical Feng Shui methods, is based on the 4 cardinal points (North, South, East, West) and inter cardinals ( Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast).

A measurement with the compass ( known as Luo Pan) is made, and lining up the North direction will give the exact position of the space.

Once the consultant has this information, a detailed study begins, linking all this information to the plant of the space, to the inhabitants, to the existing energy (Chi), etc.

Since Winter is here, and it’s also associated to the North direction, no better time to look at this part of the space ( home or business), that relates directly with our life paths and analyze how energy is flowing.

How light enters your home?

One great aspect of Feng Shui studies is how light and energy(Chi) enters in each space, especially natural light that comes from outside.

When a careful mapping of the space and its directions is made, and depending on which side of the globe is located, we are able to know exactly the quality and quantity of light that we have in certain rooms.

For example, if a living room is facing South direction in Portugal, surely it will have light and warmth all day, from sunrise until the sun goes down.

On the other hand, if this same space is facing North, then it will probably be dark and cold with lack of light.

At East direction, we can benefit from the sunrise light so generally, good for bedrooms.

At West direction we can watch the sunset, so living room spaces are also great here.

These are all fundamental aspects of any space and sometimes discarded, though today, we even have computer programs that can tell us exactly this information.

Welcoming Winter Solstice

For oriental culture, Yin and Yang represent the 2 forces that when combined originate energy and creation, and this vision persisted in many cultures not only with Feng Shui, but also with health, medicine and food.

These two opposed forces, are actually interdependent, without the idea of cold, we wouldn’t be able to describe heat, so all that exists is guided by Yin and Yang polarity.

As we observe this mechanism as a circle, the energy flows clockwise, so the highest point of the circle is where maximum Yang takes place and consequently where Yin is born.

The same will happen when Yin reaches its maximum and Yang will be born, which takes place in December 21st, the longest night and the shortest day of the year.

So generally, we can describe the Yin energy as:

  • The moon, winter, night, darkness,feminine, interior, low, quietness, passiveness, earth,cold, soft, calm waters, gardens, sleep…

The bed mattresses and Feng Shui.

For most of Feng Shui experts, when planning a couple’s bedroom, the bed should have one mattress only, two separate mattresses it is said to symbolize a division between the couple, which could bring more disagreements and distance.

If for some reason it is not possible to have one piece only, then it’s better to have two separate beds than one bed with separate mattresses, respecting the individuality of each one without having this split between them.

Also, having the mattress on the floor, with no space beneath, might influence the mood, dissatisfaction feelings or even health issues.

Once this piece could accumulate more dirt than we imagine, a proper hygiene and even change of mattresses should be carried out occasionally , depending on the case, for example, the degree of dirtiness, comfort and use.
