Bringing harmony to your home with a Green Christmas.

For Feng Shui practice, Christmas is a western tradition, and although it’s not a Chinese custom, this yang energy vibe brings light and color to our homes all over the world.

So, let’s seize this opportunity to rethink our own Christmas and try to achieve a greener environment at home:

  • Welcoming greenery at our homes is already a trend, but at this time of the year we can mix with seasonal plants and leaves that also have a wonderful fragrance, like eucalyptus, laurel, holly and mistletoe;
  • Using Led lighting is a great option for saving energy, as lights are on much more time this season;
  • Gift wrapping options are so many, try to add your personalized finish with old wrapping paper, newspapers, natural strings, ribbons, foliage,etc;
  • Choose pieces not just for Christmas, look beyond this season and opt for items that you can use all year long;
  • Try to make sustainable choices as much as possible, this time of the year is when waste will reach its annual pick, consider to shop locally and responsibly, looking for ecological items that can be recycled and re- purposed;
  • Finally, make your home warm and cosy for you and your loved ones, snuggling up under soft blankets such as wool, for these utilizes a renewable source.

Does old furniture bring good Feng Shui?

This is often an issue that some people have, but to answer this question we should analyze first the whole context inside home and think about its purpose in your life:

  • Is your home filled with old furniture?
  • Are they too big for the space you have?
  • Do they bring good memories or a good vibration?
  • Are they still in a good and proper condition?
  • Does everyone like them in the house or just you?
  • Do they have a story to tell?

For me, homes are filled with symbols that represent us and our family, so returning life to something old is also honoring those who came before us.

If Feng Shui is about studying energy flow, symbols can also have a big influence on us, and in a beneficial or non beneficial way.

Pantries

As the season and circumstances are making us to eat more at home, let’s take a look at our pantries.

Pantries can easily turn to a messy place, that’s why we should keep it well organized and clean.

Don’t let your pantry come to the point where is chaotic, especially with food and ingredients that already expired.

Storage your ingredients like pasta, flours, rice and others in glass containers, the advantage is that they last longer, you can have a better notion of the quantity you need and besides of being more sustainable, they are certainly nicer.

Buying food in bulk stores is also a great option, where we can even bring our own containers and considerably reduce plastic waste.

Independently on which section your pantry is located inside home, beware that all of this “nests” of chaotic energy can bring a non beneficial or stagnant flow into your home.

Even when you apparently have the most beautiful kitchen, what’s inside of it also counts a lot.

How can a responsible decor bring good Feng Shui?

Combining some hand made pieces in home decor will bring earth element energy to any space, and at the same time, makes us closer to nature with a healthier environment even inside the home.

Besides, a durable home, back to noble materials that came from knowledge of the past are full of beauty and utility, such as ceramics, soft textiles, basketry and others.

Every piece should tell a story about its source, like this old chair passed through generations from Alentejo region, this ceramic pottery from a street fair and the wonderful carpet from sustainable Portuguese brand @kozii that are actually made in India.

Acting consciously about what we use in our home can certainly bring good energy to any space, as well as acting sustainable contributes for a better balance for all of us in this planet, our Earth. 🧡

Decorating with old pallets?

One of my favorite furniture recycles are made from this strong wood element. Every time I see a pallet transformed into a nice piece I get so amazed.

Decorating our living room with a coffee table like this, will certainly lift up the energy inside home,bringing a wood element to our space with its vigorous vibe.

Not all as to be luxurious and glamorous in home decor , sometimes a special piece is not the most expensive but the one that speaks to our heart.

Being conscious about the furniture we have at home is more important than we may imagine, so not having too much and not spending too much is quite easy and even an unpretentious and simple decor can be just as beautiful.
